National Suicide Prevention Week
TEEN SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS WEEK
September 7 – 11, 2010 will mark the 10th annual Teen Suicide Prevention Awareness Week. The weeklong series of events will be held at 8 valley high schools, ending with a rally on September 10th which will be held at Desert Ridge Marketplace from 6 to 9:30 pm. The 8 valley high schools will include Carl Hayden HS (Phoenix), South Mountain HS (Phoenix), Verrado HS (Buckeye), Desert Edge HS (Goodyear), and Mountain View HS (Mesa), Westview HS (Avondale/Tolleson), Horizon HS (Scottsdale/Paradise Valley), and Pinnacle HS (Scottsdale).
The goal of these rallies is to educate and inform teens about suicide prevention and the resources available to valley youth and provide an opportunity to reach many individuals that would otherwise not have this life-saving information. Teen Suicide Prevention Awareness Week is held by Teen Lifeline in collaboration with A New Leaf, Banner Behavioral Health, Bullybuffer.com, Community Bridges, EMPACT, Tumbleweed, Crisis Response Network, Florence Crittenton, Mental Health of Arizona, 1n10, and SADD.

Choices, FIC, Magellan, Partners In Recovery, Southwest Network, and Terros.are conducting ASIST trainings during Suicide Prevention Awareness Week.
SAFE TALK TRAINING
Magellan is conducting a FREE Safe Talk training on September 7th, open to anyone in Maricopa County. This workshop is designed for community members as well as professionals who want to learn how to be more aware and alert to signs of suicide. This course will not teach intervention techniques, but will give participants the basic skills they need to engage in a conversation about suicide and refer individuals for additional help.
SCREENING OF "THE BRIDGE"
Magellan is also hosting a screening of The Bridge on September 7th for employees. After the screening, David Covington, Chief of Adult Services, will host a discussion about suicide and mental illness and the initiative currently underway to prepare behavioral health caregivers to intervene and help prevent suicide among the most at-risk population.
